A robber once asked his Guru,” When will I attain God?” To this his Guru replied, “When you do a Ganga Snan, you shall attain God!”
The robber continued his activities involving stealing, murders, etc. Suddenly he remembered that his Guru’s words. Accordingly, he called his near and dear ones to witness the Ganga Snan. Post the Ganga Snan, everything seemed the same. Yet, he didn’t lose faith in his Guru’s words. He thought, ‘ ‘My Guru cannot be wrong. Perhaps this is not Ganga.’ He was ridiculed by his family and friends. Therefore, he left to meet Narayana, the Lord of Ganga.
But Narayana could not wait for him! He came to the robber, disguised as an old man and asked him where he was going. The robber replied, “I am off to Vaikuntha to ask Narayana if this river is really Ganga!” The old man told him that this is Ganga and he needn’t go to Vaikuntha for that.
Now the robber was confused. He asked the old man as to why he isn’t liberated. The old man told him, “You are liberated!” And then, instead of the old man, the thief saw Narayana! Narayana told the thief, “You have kept faith in your Guru’s words and that has pleased me!” Thus, the thief was liberated!
Most of you must be wondering that how does a robber have a Guru? Our concept of sin is flawed, to begin with. Good and bad is just a mental game. To a Guru, the disciple’s soul matters, not how he feeds his stomach! Faith I n the Guru is the biggest weapon a Disciple has against all obstacles on the Divine Path!
