TALK DOESN'T COOK RICE

TALK DOESN'T COOK RICE

"It's important to think beyond the often simplisticways we interpret our favorite proverbs and motivational quotes.

For example, consider the Chinese proverb: 'Talk doesn't cook rice.' Any sensible person knows that's true, and we could easily use that quotation to disparage people who seem to talk more than is agreeable to us.

Yet, if we stop to think about it, we also know that we can learn how to cook tasty rice by talking with someone who knows how to do so, following their verbal instructions, and practicing.

Being able to speak clearly--and listen impartially--isoften a big part of truly successful action."
