First Holy Cow That Ever Landed on Earth!
Surabhi. Yes, that’s what she was called. There are a couple of mythological stories that talk about her birth. For instance, Mahabharata records that Surabhi rose from the churning of thecosmic ocean (Samudra manthan) by the gods and demons to acquire Amrita (immortal drink).According to the Ramayana, Surabhi is the daughter of sage Kashyap and his wife Krodhavasha, the daughter of Daksha. Her daughters Rohini and Gandharvi are the mothers of cattle and horses respectively. Still, it is Surabhi who is described as the mother of all cows in the text. Finally, The Devi Bhagavata Purana narrates that Lord Krishna was the one who created Surabhi inVrindavan. It was Muni Narada who asked Lord Vishnu about Surabhi and how did she come to existence when Vishnu narrated her purpose to be around humans.According to The Devi Bhagavata Purana, Lord Vishnu described Surabhi as the goddess who lived in the Goloka. She is the first in the creationsof cows and appeared in city of Vrindavan when Krishna surrounded with Radha and other gopis, suddenly had desire of drinking.
He then created Surabhi on the spot.A Friend to HumansAfter seeing Surabhi, Sudama (Krishna’s friend) milked her in a newly made earthen bowl. Her milk was too sweet and when it dropped out from the bowl, it created a big tank measuring a hundred yojanas in length as well as in breadth.Later, Krishna filled that tank with precious gems and jewels and created a Kamdhenu cow (the cow that makes your wishes true). Lord Krishna used to worship Surabhi as she provided people of Vrindavan with milk and they could make otherdairy precuts with it. They also made cow dung cakes and pasted on their home walls to keep it free from insects and keep it cool in summers.
Herurine was also used to cure many diseases. Why do People Worship SurabhiOne day Surabhi stopped giving milk by the influence of Visnu Maya. Gods became anxious on it. They went to Bharmaloka and asked Lord Bhrama for help. On his advice, Indra Dev started chanting - ‘Om Surabhayi Namah!’Hearing her praises, Devi Surabhi appeared in Bhramaloka and gave the desired boon to Indra Dev and other gods. From her came many cows and thus the cattle grew on earth.
